AGORA direct
AGORA direct and German taxes
AGORA direct has been an online broker since 1999 and, with over 25 years of experience, is one of the most established online brokers in Germany. Competitive pricing, a broad product range, one of the leading trading platforms and friendly, experienced customer support make AGORA direct one of the best providers for active investors.
AGORA direct is the brand of Berlin-based First Quant GmbH (HRB 260701, AG Charlottenburg) and a German investment firm authorised under § 15 WpIG, supervised by BaFin (BaFin ID 10123328). As an Introducing Broker for Interactive Brokers Ireland Limited (IBIE), AGORA direct gives investors access to over 150 exchanges in more than 33 countries – including stocks, ETFs, options, futures, CFDs, bonds, warrants and physical gold and silver.
AGORA direct does not withhold German capital gains tax – a deliberate advantage for active investors: your gains stay in your account in full, your liquidity is not tied up by ongoing tax deductions, and you keep trading with your full capital. As with all IBKR-based brokers, however, no German annual tax certificate is issued: you report your capital income yourself in your tax return. BubbleTax prepares the tax documents for you.
BubbleTax as official AGORA direct partner
BubbleTax is an official partner of AGORA direct and is recommended directly by AGORA direct as a tax solution for German customers. Since AGORA direct uses the Interactive Brokers platform (IBIE), you export the same FlexQuery XML file as direct IBKR clients. BubbleTax processes this data automatically and produces a complete tax report with the figures required for Anlage KAP, KAP-INV and SO.
What BubbleTax handles for you
- Gains and losses from stocks, ETFs, options, futures and CFDs – calculated automatically using the FIFO method (§ 20 (4) sentence 7 EStG)
- Foreign-currency gains from USD, GBP and other currency accounts (§ 20 (2) no. 7 EStG)
- Dividends with correctly credited withholding tax under the applicable double taxation treaties
- Corporate actions such as stock splits, spin-offs and tender offers
- ETF advance lump sum (Vorabpauschale) and partial exemption under the German Investment Tax Act (InvStG)
- Conversion of all transactions to euros using official ECB reference rates
